Behind-the-Scenes Look: Baymeadows Movers Teams Up with Chipman and OMA to Clear Out Legacy Equipment from AMC Theatres

July 20, 2026

Most moviegoers walk into a movie theater focused on the movie they're about to watch. They notice the giant screen, plush seats, and maybe the smell of freshly popped popcorn. What they don't see is all that unfolds behind the scenes to make that experience a reality—or what it takes when it's time to decommission decades of hardware and make room for the future.

Recently, Baymeadows Movers had the chance to partner with Chipman Relocation & Logistics on a distinctive commercial moving project through our membership in the Office Moving Alliance (OMA). Together, we supported the removal of outdated projection equipment from several AMC Theatre locations. It wasn't your standard commercial move. It demanded careful planning, specialized equipment, experienced crews, and seamless coordination between trusted relocation partners.

Jobs like these are one of the reasons we love what we do. No two commercial moves are ever quite the same, and that's what keeps our work engaging.

Every Commercial Move Has a Story

Every Commercial Move Has a StoryOne of the best parts of commercial moving is the variety.

During one week we're relocating an entire school before students come back for the new year. The next we're delivering physical therapy equipment to a new healthcare facility. Next we find ourselves inside a movie theater, carefully taking apart and hauling out equipment that has entertained millions of people over the years.

This AMC project was especially memorable because it entailed removing large digital cinema projection systems, as well as several pieces of historic 35mm projection equipment. Walking into the projection booths felt like going back in time. Some of the film projectors and reels had been part of the movie-going experience long before digital projection had become the industry norm.

For movie lovers, it was fascinating.

For our crew, it was a reflection that every piece of equipment we move carries its own history.

Great Projects Begin with Great Planning

Great Projects Begin with Great PlanningMoves like this don't begin when the moving truck pulls up.

Long before the first projector is taken down, our team works through logistics, scheduling, building access, equipment requirements, manpower, and safety planning.

Working alongside Chipman Relocation & Logistics, we managed every phase of the project to make sure each theater could be completed safely and efficiently. One of the greatest advantages of being part of the Office Moving Alliance (OMA) is gaining access to a nationwide network of experienced commercial movers who uphold the same commitment to professionalism and customer service. By combining Chipman's national relocation expertise with Baymeadows Movers' local knowledge and project management experience, we were able to carry out the work seamlessly from start to finish.

Movie theaters weren't constructed with equipment removal in mind.

Projection rooms are often tucked away on upper levels with slim passageways, constricted doorways, and limited access. A few buildings have elevators, whereas others don't. Relocating large projection systems through those spaces demands much more than simply loading them onto a dolly and making for the truck.

Every challenge needs to be identified before work even begins.

That's when experience makes the difference.

It's Truly About More Than Brute Strength

It's Truly About More Than Brute StrengthPeople often assume moving heavy equipment is purely about raw strength.

The truth is that commercial moving is about planning, technique, and using the right tools for the job.

Undertakings like the AMC equipment removal call for specialized dollies, rigging equipment, lift systems, protective materials, and skilled crews who know how to safely maneuver oversized equipment through narrow spaces.

Each projector had to be carefully disconnected, protected, guided through the building, and securely loaded for transport.

A lot of these systems are not only heavy—they're also highly delicate. One accidental bump into a doorway or uneven transition can lead to significant damage.

Communication and patience are as important as physical strength.

Safeguarding the Building Is Just as Important

While our focus is on safely moving equipment, we're equally committed to preserving the customer's facility.

Commercial buildings represent a major investment, and even small repairs can become expensive and disruptive.

Once a job is done, our goal is for customers to remember how smoothly it all went, not the moving process itself.

Working Together Makes the Difference

Sizable commercial moving projects are never a single-person task.

Every member of the crew has a specific role, and communication is key from beginning to end.

One mover may be steering equipment through a doorway while another manages the load. Someone else is watching clearances, while another crew member is readying the next piece for transport.

When seasoned crews work in sync, there is a rhythm that develops. That's expertise that can't be developed overnight.

Seeing our crew work together was a clear example of what happens when seasoned movers share the same commitment to safety, communication, and customer service.

A Little Enjoyment Along the Way

Being employed inside movie theaters certainly had its perks.

Our guys couldn't resist heading downstairs for a handful of movie snacks between tasks on the project. Having spent the day behind the scenes where not many people ever get to go, popcorn for some reason tasted even better.

Such moments make long workdays memorable and remind us that while we take our work seriously, we also love what we do.

Commercial Moving Is More Than Just Transportation

Commercial Moving Is More Than Just TransportationPlenty of people believe moving companies simply load trucks and unload them at another location.

Commercial moving is far more than that.

These projects often involve logistics planning, inventory management, warehousing, project management, scheduling, handling of specialized equipment, and coordinating multiple contractors.

Each customer has different needs.

Certain businesses need to relocate hundreds of employees over a single weekend.

Some need sensitive medical equipment transported without disruption.

Many projects happen overnight to limit downtime.

Others—like the AMC project—involve the careful removal of specialized equipment from unique environments.

Every move calls for adaptability, planning, and problem solving.

At Baymeadows Movers, when someone asks, "Can you help with this?" our first response is almost always, "Let's figure out how."

Hands-On Experience Builds Confidence

For decades, Baymeadows Movers has proudly served Jacksonville and Northeast Florida, and we've found that smooth projects consistently come down to the same fundamentals:

Preparation.

Communication.

Professionalism.

Trust.

Our customers know we'll come ready, keep them informed throughout the project, handle their property with care, and solve problems instead of creating them.

Whether we're on the job inside schools, hospitals, office buildings, warehouses, government facilities, entertainment venues, or commercial campuses, our approach doesn't change.

Protect the customer.

Protect the equipment.

Finish the work safely.

Leave the site better than we found it.

Preserving a Piece of Movie History

Preserving a Piece of Movie HistoryOne of the surprising highlights of this project was encountering some of the original 35mm projection systems that once brought so many movies to life.

Well before streaming services and digital cinema, these machines produced lasting experiences for generations of moviegoers.

Standing beside them gave our crew a real appreciation for how much technology has progressed over the years.

It's not every morning that a moving company gets to help retire a small piece of entertainment history.

Personally, it really was a moment we'll never forget.
